Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of the Ontario Association of Optometrists is comprised of member optometrists who are nominated by their peers in the profession to serve a two year term. Elections for open positions the Board are held yearly.
OAO's Board Members are noted for their leadership in the profession and serve as advocates for patient and community interests. The President also serves an elected two year term and is responsible for providing guidance to the Board and working as a formal spokesperson on optometric and healthcare matters.
OAO President:
Dr. Farooq Khan
Dr. Khan practices in Whitby and is an active member of OAO's scope of practice and remuneration areas. He has also been a lead volunteer on political outreach to put optometry’s issues on the radar of government and other stakeholders.
OAO Vice President:
Dr. Lareina Yeung
Dr. Yeung practices in Toronto and is serving as the OAO Vice President and assisted as the lead for education and other outreach initiatives including OAO’s marquee public education campaign Eye See…Eye Learn.
Treasurer
Dr. Nish Rajani
Dr. Rajani's practices in Toronto and is serving as the OAO Treasurer and our lead volunteer for coordinating high level education our Annual Symposium program.
2013 Board of Directors:
Dr. Sheldon Salaba
Dr. Salaba is the past OAO President who practices in Hamilton and has been prominent in his leadership of the Eye See... Eye Learn program in addition to being an active proponent of consumer education and helping OAO members succeed and is serving as the OAO lead for education.
Dr. Jeff Goodhew
Dr. Goodhew practices in Oakville and is active in a number of community outreach efforts, including working internationally to provide eye care for those less fortunate and is serving as the OAO lead for governance.
Dr. Ken Mandadakis
Dr. Mandadakis practices in Toronto and can also be found at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) where he is a staff doctor, providing Low Vision Services to help visually impaired individuals of all ages.
Dr. Tracy McMurter
Dr. McMurter practices in Ancaster and is active is a number of community outreach activities including the Eye See...Eye Learn children's vision program started in Hamilton in 2009.
Dr. John Mastronardi
Dr. Mastronardi practices in Windsor and is actively involved in various committees including Third Party Insurance, Member Recruitment and Retention and Children's Vision. He currently sits as Ontario's representative on the Council of the CAO, Board Director for FYidoctors and 2009 - 2011 past OAO President.
Dr. Mike Rotholz
Dr Rotholz provides comprehensive, individualized eye care in the mid- & down-town Toronto area. He will be heading up our Community area and has a strong interest in practice management and helping optometrists thrive. He has also served as a clinical investigator on several contact lens and contact lens solution studies.
Dr. Fiona Soong
Dr. Soong practices in Toronto and has been a long standing advocate for building community spirit and assisting members in programming.
Dr. Tim Tsang
Dr. Tsang practices in Toronto, and is also the Director of Ocular Disease Services at the Vision Institute of Canada. He has experience managing conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and ocular complications associated with diabetes.
Dr. Phil Vrkljan
Dr. Vrkljan practices in Hamilton and as our Advocacy lead will take an active and involved role in advocating for his profession on scope of practice and remuneration issues.
