With the 100th Anniversary of OAO being celebrated this year, we would like to thank our existing members for contributing to the long and successful history of the association through membership itself, participation and support.

Over the past year we collectively added to our century of accomplishments by bringing about a number of positive changes for the profession.

We coordinated senior ministry bureaucrats, political staff and our college to ensure that TPA regulations met the Minister’s direction and HPRAC’s recommendations, which will facilitate a smooth passage during the next stage of TPA regulation development.

OAO achieved ratification of a new OHIP agreement and launched ongoing MPP awareness inititaives to educate Ontario's lawmakers about eye care and vision health issues, taking a strong message to political staff and senior bureaucrats regarding our concerns with optician sight testing.

If you are not already a member optometrist, we urge you to join OAO as an active participant in shaping the future of healthcare today to meet our collective goals; to focus on tomorrow.

With your help we can educate MPPs, physicians and nurses about optometry’s role in healthcare and ensure that our patients receive the best, the most comprehensive and most accessible care available.

In supporting our members we encourage a diligent and active sense of community - the vast majority of optometrists in Ontario know that OAO brings strength, integrity and insight to optometry.

We can bring sight to our patients.

2009 has already marked the introduction of new objectives that will enhance our advocacy for the optometric profession, build awareness and appreciation through education and strengthen our membership community.

A new public website, an upcoming members' portal, online collaboration groups including Facebook and Wiki sites; exciting new resources for physicians, nurses and educators. But in order to benefit from these efforts - and to in turn benefit your patients - you must be a member.

Join us and help create a new vision for optometry.
